Somalia is a land of many great people. The woman in our picture at the top left hand side is Somali development activist Edna Adan Ismail. When she got her degree she described her work in Somaliland, where she has fought for adequate health care for women and children and recently opened a maternity hospital.

“I hope that this proves to this year’s graduating class, and to all who have been blessed with an access to education, that with adequate training, good discipline, strong commitment and unwavering determination against all odds, that each one of you can have a profound impact in your chosen and different areas of specialization. If an old woman can do it, anybody can," Ismail said.
